Want a quick DIY project?
I gave myself a few hours to figure out how to restore outdoor wood furniture fast.
The challenge was the mismatched outdoor pieces we have.
We have a collection of two different styles of wood furniture at out house.
There are two wood colors and the furniture shapes vary slightly as well.
They were worn down and needed a makeover, but it had to be quick because there are so many other things I want to spend my time on right now.
You busy peeps know what I mean.
How To Restore Outdoor Wood Furniture Fast
In the past I had experimented with a paint stain and really liked the outcome.
So, instead of staining the wood or painting it, I did both with a paint stain.
With a paint stain I don’t have to worry about the wood showing through the paint job because that’s part of the charm. One coat and I’m done!
If I had stained the outdoor furniture, the two different woods would become even more apparent.
Covering them with a paint stain makes them look much more like a set.
This project was exciting to finish and now I get to share with you how to restore wood outdoor furniture fast.
If you want to quickly upgrade your back deck wood furniture, follow these easy steps.
Supplies Needed for Restoring Outdoor Wood Furniture
- Sandpaper
- Wood cleaner or general cleaner
- Tack Cloth
- Drop Cloth
- Wood Paint Stain
- Rubber Gloves
Steps to Paint Staining Your Wood Yard Furniture
Step 1 – Prepare Your Work Space
Place a drop cloth under wood furniture and over anything you don’t want to get splattered with wood stain.
Step 2 – Prepare Wood Furniture
Clean with wood cleaner or this general cleaner that I love here. It’s a concentrate that you mix with water and put in a spray bottle.
It will last you forever! In this post I talk about all the ways you can use it in your home.
Lightly sand any your wood furniture with a fine grit sandpaper and then wipe down with a tack cloth to remove dust.
Step 3 – Apply Wood Paint Stain
With your brush, apply the paint stain, brushing in the same direction as the wood grain. Use a smaller paint brush to get in the little crevices.
Step 4 – Apply Additional Rounds of Wood Paint Stain
Repeat the process of applying the paint stain until your project is complete.
Tip: Invest in good quality brushes for a smooth finish and wear rubber gloves for easy clean up, as well as to protect your hands. I’m always forgetting to put mine on, but I have these gloves here that come in so many pretty colors.
Step 5 – Double Check Your Work
When finished double check your wood furniture for any areas you may have missed in applying the paint stain.
Get in the nooks with an artist brush.
Step 6 – Air Dry Before Use
Let dry until the wood is no longer tacky and wipes clean.
There you’re done, no need for a clear top coat either!
A thrift store or Facebook marketplace is the perfect place to snap up outdoor furniture deals for your deck or porch.
