After finding this storage chest at a thrift store I knew we could make it cute for Elsa bedroom.
I did a quick storage chest furniture flip and now it fits in perfectly with her space.
Slowly, but surely we’re making progress on Elsa’s bedroom makeover.
I love working on it with her. She’s such a delightful child and I want her to love her room.
Storage Chest Furniture Flip
Before
Painting a Vinyl Storage Chest
Although the chest is covered in vinyl, that didn’t stop me from painting it.
Here’s how I did it.
Supplies
- General non toxic cleaning solution (here’s a post on what I use in our home)
- Primer
- 2 Paint colors
- Paint roller
- Paint roller covers
- Roller tray
- Paint Brush
- Artist paint brush
Clean Chest Surface
Whenever I bring home a thrift find I always clean it very well. I used a non toxic cleaning mixture I make.
You can see it here. The cleaner worked great to clean the vinyl outside as well as the wood interior of the chest.
As with any surface you might paint, if the vinyl isn’t clean the paint won’t adhere well.
Prime Chest Surface
After cleaning it well and letting it dry for half an hour, I hauled out my trusty Kilz primer.
I only used one coat of primer to cover the chest and that’s all it really needs.
Paint Chest Surface
When the primer was dry, which took a good hour, I laid a coat of gloss white paint.
Glossy paint is easy to scrub clean. I gave the chest two coats for durability
Paint Inside Chest
We had some left over paint from another project that’s a soft pink which we painted the inside with.
Now it’s more i line with a little girl’s room.
AFTER
So much cleaner and brighter.
The storage Chest furniture flip is complete.
Ready to put to use and enjoy!
Such a great transformation. Paint is truly one of my favorite DIY tools.
White paint was the star of this show on this furniture flip. Any color paint is usually the star of most of my room makeovers.
