Today I’m showing you how I style a kitchen island with simple and affordable decor.

When I say affordable I’m talking about using things you already own, yet applying them in different ways.

And when I say simple, I mean they might already be right in your kitchen.

Your life is busy enough, let’s make it easier for you.

But let’s also make it pretty!

How do I Style My Kitchen Island?

  • Use what you have.
  • Introduce functional kitchen decor.
  • Embrace natural elements.
  • Play with texture.

Keep these four practices in mind when styling your kitchen island.

You’ll create a lovely balanced vignette that’ll cost you very little, if anything at all.

Use What You Have

Using what you already have in your home is a budget smart way to style your kitchen island.

Even better yet, use what you have and use in your kitchen.

To create a cute vignette on the center of your kitchen island.

I took a ceramic container from a shelf in our music room, and then used vintage salt and pepper shakers that I recently found at a thrift store.

Introduce Functional Kitchen Decor

It makes sense to also use functional kitchen items as kitchen decor.

In our kitchen I have a beautiful copper kettle that I found at the amazing yearly Found Cottage Market here in Holland. You can see all the gorgeous photos of the market here.

This is a functioning kettle, it’s not just for aesthetics. We use it for tea as well as for it’s good looks.

It’s so pretty I decided to include it in how I style our kitchen island.

Turns out a copper kettle doubles perfectly as a vase.

Embrace Natural Elements

First, in kitchen decor you almost have to use a natural element. It could be edible which would be quite appropriate since this is the room where ewe prepare food.

Of course a classic decorating tool is flowers.

Who doesn’t love using flowers in the kitchen?

Styling our kitchen island with flowers motivates me to keep our kitchen clean.

In the spirit of keeping the styling a kitchen islands simple and affordable, let me offer a suggestion.

Wild flowers from the side of the road.

I couldn’t help but stop and harvest these lovely wild flowers on a country road near our house.

Some call them weeds, I call them pretty and free!

Play with Texture

Ideally making sure you represent as much texture as possible in your kitchen island centerpiece is best.

The result is a more interesting grouping of decor with each piece standing out against the other.

For example, I used a wicker tray so instead of adding a wicker basket I used a ceramic container.

There are so many ways to style a kitchen island while spending zero money. Besides keeping things simple and affordable, you exercise your creative side.

Hopefully you’re inspired to create your own centerpiece to style a kitchen island.
