DIY Floating Floral Window Party Decoration

by

We had a birthday party for our sweet Elsa the other day. It’s hard to believe my baby is ten years old! Of course, I wanted to make her party decorations absolutely beautiful and I set out to do it with the environment in mind. Instead of balloons,

I chose faux flowers that can be used again and again as decorations, or for other projects. When we tire of these florals we can donate them to a Thrift store so someone else can enjoy them. Win, win!

Whenever my kids have a birthday I always ask them what colors they want to see at their party. Picking a color theme narrows down the many decisions out there and keeps me on task when planning out the decorations. Elsa’s a child after my own heart and decided on blue and white.

Here’s how I went about making a pretty DIY floating floral window party decoration for my baby girl.

You’ll need:

  • 2 or more kinds of faux flowers with multiple stems on each bunch
  • Fishing line
  • Wire cutter
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Pennies or small stones

I found these faux flowers at the Dollar Tree. If you use flowers with multiple stems you save money because you can divide them into smaller flowers.

Step 1

Cut you flower stems to the desired length.

Tie you fishing line on your curtain rod or tape on the wall if you don’t have a curtain rod. Fill the whole window with several vertical lines of fishing line.

Step 3

Tape your flowers onto the fishing line and stagger them so they evenly cover the window. Mix you floral colors and shapes for a meadow look.

Tape a penny or a pretty stone to the end of each fishing line to hold it down and keep it in place.

We are so happy with how it turned out!

This DIY floating floral window party decoration is a great alternative to balloons.

It could also be used against a wall as a photo backdrop.

We also bought a floral wire frame from the Dollar Tree and floated a wreath above our chandelier. It was the finishing touch.

We ran out of faux flowers so I’ll have to do another one of these floating wreaths come Spring, and I’ll show you how we put this together.

Enjoyed putting up these party decorations from start to finish. It’s an easy and fun craft.

Next time we might try installing it in a doorway as well.

What event could you see yourself using this DIY floating floral window party decoration for?
