5 Ways to Successfully Handle Multiple Renovation Projects

by

Do you love renovating?

But struggle to keep all the different projects organized?

Same!

Let me share a few reno tips with you.

Here are five ways to successfully juggle multiple home renovation projects.

My life seems to be centered on all things home, and I’m consistently envisioning new ways to improve our living spaces.

Because of this I always have several DIY projects going at the same time in our house.

This can get hectic, but I’ve learned to compartmentalize each project and have found ways to make juggling multiple home projects at once more successful.

Wanted to share a few with you.

Five ways to successfully juggle multiple home renovation projects.

1. Write home projects down.

It’s basic and key, make a project list and put it in your phone so it doesn’t get lost, then write that same list down in a notebook.

Take notes on shopping lists, design concepts, work timeline, and anything else about your projects need to get out of your head and onto paper.

I’ve read studies that have found the best way to organize your thoughts is to write your thoughts down. This is true for me and essential to keeping track of the many plans and home projects I have as well as what needs to be done and when.

2.  Take photos of your Renovation.

I’ve learned over the years that I can easily become frustrated and depressed because the slow pace of certain home projects.

Taking a before photo is essential to see where you started, but progress photos are equally important for me.

When I started taking photos and progress pictures it really encouraged me to keep going, and appreciate how far each project has come.

3. Talk about your renovation.

Another way to successfully handle multiple renovation projects is to tell people about your plans.

Accountability is usually what gets me up and going when I’m tired and have no interest in working on my home.

If I’ve told my Instagram followers or blog readers that I hope to get a project done in a certain amount of time, it holds me accountable to that goal.

In That same vein, your encouragement and ideas are one of the best things about sharing my home renovation journey.

4.  Work on more than one project at a time, but not too many.

I have five renovation or DIY projects going on in my home right now, and that’s not including organization and cleaning projects.

Some of these jobs are big and some are small. Knowing your own personal threshold for disorder (because renovation and DIY bring disorder) is important in knowing how many projects you take on at one time. Touching on too many projects in one day is overwhelming for me. My sweet spot is working on three projects a day.

This way each project gets a good amount of time spent on it instead of me flitting from one project to the next, and not really moving ahead.

I also know from experience I need a certain amount of order in our home and I can pull out house together enough to be at peace when I don’t have too many projects going on at once.  Know your active project number.

5.  Celebrate your accomplishments!

Lastly, it takes a lot to finish a home project so when you’ve finished one celebrate it’s completion!

Have a little party, brag to a friend or give yourself a high five.

Whatever you do, make sure you celebrate the fact you successfully handled multiple renovation projects.  Sometimes my family will have a bonfire and roast marshmallows, sometimes I’ll just sit and gaze at whatever project it is I finished with a glass of sparkling grape juice.

By taking a moment to acknowledge a project’s end, you avoid turning what should be a rewarding experience into an endless list of “to do’s”.

Always celebrate and give thanks for being able to finish a home project.

How about you guys?  Any ideas on how to keep multiple home projects moving, and get to the finish line of home design?

Let’s share and inspire each other!
