Happy Earth Day!

In honor of our home earth, let’s talk sustainability, Thrift shopping for furniture is a great way to be kind to the environment, and live in a sustainable way.

Do you know where to find the best thrifted furniture? Every city has thrift stores, and it pays to find out the best ones in your area. That being said, sometimes you stumble across a great find at a place where you’ve never found anything before. In my experience go thrift shopping often for the best chance at finding great thrifted furniture.

Spring ORC – Week 3 Thrifted Furniture

Thrift Shopping for the Basement Family Room

It’s week three of the One Room Challenge and we’re completely updating our basement family room. A challenge for sure!

I did some shopping this week and have three thrifted finds to show you! I’m super excited to have uncovered each of these three pieces, and it’s taken some time to do so. You never know what or if you’ll find what you’re looking for when out thrift shopping.

Thankfully I’ve gotten pretty good at it over the years and can visualize where a piece could go and what could become of it while I’m shopping. I’ve learned that if you don’t grab it, it probably won’t be there if you come back later.

Plant Stand – $12

Look at this plant stand! Can you believe this price? When I came across this rattan plant stand I couldn’t believe my eyes. Rattan is really having a prolonged moment right now, as well it should. I had been looking for a beautiful vintage plant stand for months. It’s so satisfying to finally come upon something you’ve been hoping for, and the rattan is such an unusual look. We have nothing like it in that area of our home, and it will add more texture, which I love.

Large Matted Art Print – $5

It looks like an original doesn’t it? My favorite thrift shop did not disappoint when I stopped in the other day. I was slowly walking by the book section and spied this sitting on top of the book shelf. It’s so large you think I would’ve seen it from afar, but I wasn’t looking up that high at first. If I hadn’t been walking slowly I may have missed it even though it was right there. This is a very high quality print with heavy paper a solid backing and a handsome matte. It’s in perfect condition and at this price a huge win for our budget makeover.

Coffee Table – $40

Week 1  – Family Room Mood board

Week 2 – Plank Wall Paneling on a Budget

Week 3  You’re here!

If you go back to week one of the One Room Challenge, find it here, you can see that a coffee table is an important part of our plan. Every family room needs a sturdy table in front of the sofa where people can feel comfortable setting down their drink or bowl of popcorn.  In the past our basement became the place where dishes never returned from. When we’re finished with our basement family room no one is allowed to eat down there unless they have been granted permission. However, I do see us watching movies together which means snacks, and we’ll need a coffee table to set them on.

There are a few scratches and dents in this pretty wood table, but I plan on sanding it down to give the finish a weathered look. Furniture flip coming at you in the next couple of weeks! Compared to what I’d pay online or at a furniture store this coffee table was a steal of a deal.

The budget for the basement family room is looking great thanks to these three finds. Thrifted furniture and decor will put you in a position to spend freely elsewhere.  Go hit up your local thrift stores for big savings because you can use those saving to splurge later in a project.

You can find more participants here in the One Room Challenge. To make sure you don’t miss a blog post subscribe to blog and follow us on Instagram for daily diy and design doings!

Do you thrift shop? If so do you have a favorite spot to shop?

I love your finds! The best thing about thrift stores is that no one will have what you have!
