Do you have a favorite flower? One of my favorites is the hydrangea. I have several in our garden and they produce well into the Fall.
A hydrangea is actually many flowers in one, and who doesn’t love more flowers?
I’m thankful for any flower this year because I didn’t give my garden the attention I have in past Summers. Life has been going at a very fast pace. The youngest three are getting taller every day it seems, and our oldest son Duncan just started college. It’s all a reminder that childhood slips by never to return.
As a mom of five I know quite well that my job as their mother is the most important thing I’ll ever do. I also know a mother’s guilt, but don’t claim it as my own.
Everyday I thank God I’m here to take care of my kids and walk with Jeremy through life. I can’t let my failures or shortcomings take away from all the good I’ve given to my family.
So my hydrangea, zinnia, snapdragons and impatiens all could have done much better this year. But, those flowers will be back next year, and they’ll be exactly the same, predictable and ready to bloom again. Maybe I’ll even make more time for them, but my kids….
My kids will be here next Summer, but they will be different.
It’ll amaze me, how much they’ll have changed, and in ways I can’t predict.
My kids need me specific to what is going on in their lives today. Next Summer they’ll need me, but the scenario will be different. I want to nurture them as they bloom and grow right now, this very minute.
I’m their gardener, and they’re my all time favorite flower.
Life As Art
Several very pretty things I saw this week and wanted to share with you.

She’s only been doing this for six years, and I’m blown away by this amazingly talented woman’s work.
If you absolutely love a good kitchen remodel (like me), you’ll enjoy this incredible roundup.
This Before and After New Jersey house tour is perfection.

Such a lovely comparison of raising children to flowers. As a mom who homeschooled too, and a gardener, I completely understood.!!
I didn’t know you homeschooled Carrell, that’s wonderful! You know very well the day to day tending and care children take.
