Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I post to the blog on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and decided to take this past Thursday off. It was good to enjoy the hustle and bustle of our Thanksgiving Day. What a good day it was. We all cooked and cleaned together to make a beautiful feast for seven. It was just us. Me, Jeremy, and our five loves. We give thanks to each one.
We had such a good time and were so in the moment that I didn’t think to take a photo of us. It’s almost always me who remembers. I did however set up my phone and videotape us all at the table.
Have you ever done that with your family? This was something new for me. Kids grow so fast and time is fleeting, I want to be able to look back on us as a group. I want to remember. Photos and video help with this, but My daughter was telling me about a study that says our obsession with documenting our lives to the inth degree is robbing our memories of doing their job and forever changing our brains.
In short, the finding supported the concept that our cell phones which act as cameras and video cameras are making it harder for us to actually remember our lives.
How? They take us out of living in the moment. Living in the moment is how we really remember.
So I might now have the Thanksgiving photo of all of our smiling faces around the table, but I have the memory. I can see it because it was really good, and I soaked the moment up, and was lost in that precious moment in time. Thanksgiving 2022 is over, but I lived it fully.
Plus, I have the video I set up in the corner. Glad to have that too.
