Decorative Holiday Pie Crust Molds

by

With Thanksgiving a few days away and the Holidays approaching fast, I wanted to try something new for our family.

The kids love baking and making Christmas goodies, and I love making things cute. Together we’re usually a very good team. This Holiday season I introduced pie crust molds to them. Crust molds are along the same lines as play doe molds so this was just a very fun baking project.

Have you seen all the incredible pie crusts on Pinterest? The pies look like literal works of art!

Could a couple of kids, an overzealous big sister, and a mom who only wants to take the pictures, come up with a creation even close to the experts?

We didn’t come close, but we made a couple of creations that were a big step up from what we’re used to making. The kids learned a lot and want to try again We all were impressed with how easy it was and the cost was minimal. A win any way you cut it!

Decorative Holiday Pie Crust Molds

Here’s what we used for our pie crust molds.

We went with pie classics, apple and pumpkin. We used this handy apple peeler, slicer and corer HERE. It did it’s job pe3rfectly and not only cut up the apples. but drastically cut the amount of time we had to put into getting the apples ready. Highly recommend it, plus it’s so satisfying to use. If you love apples this belongs in your kitchen.

Baking Tip: While you’re making your decorative pie crusts, press and mold your bottom pie crust into the pie plate by filling it with dried beans.

We used store bought pie crust which we pressed into the silicone molding. First coat your molding with a little oil so it’ll come out easily and without breaking. The pie cutters operate just like cookie cutters, except they pop right out with the press of a button. Fun!

Get creative and use a few decorative molds or a lot. The choice as to how much is too much is totally up to you.

Baking Tip: Use tinfoil or a pie crust shield like this one HERE when baking you pies. Don’t be lazy like us and forget. Using tinfoil will keep your crust from burning which ours almost did.

We can’t wait to try and make these again. Super easy to decorate the crust and yes, they we’re delicious!
