After the Summer vacation ends, bring the beach home. Simple Coastal decor ideas can be easily added to give that beachy vibe to your spaces.

There’s something about Coastal home decor that just seems to be relaxing and serene.

We live about two miles from Lake Michigan and have always been drawn to the sandy beaches.

We don’t get there often enough, but at least I can decorate with a few simple coastal touches to make the beach house vibe come alive for Summer and beyond.

Bring the Beach Home – Simple Coastal Decor Ideas

This Summer I didn’t have a lot of time to focus on decorating.

Instead I focused on the coastal style items that give an strong feeling of beach life.

There are a few key items and tones that signal coastal design for me.

Shells & Corals

Shells are so fun to collect and admire. If you can’t find them yourself at the beach you can always order them online. Loving this large conch shell and these gorgeously colorful ones here I need to find a craft project for. Here are a some classic shells I also thought were pretty.

This shell bowl here is incredible, and I want it!

You might be surprised, but I’ve found various shells at thrift stores as well. Whenever I do I snap them up.

 

Light Wood

The soft, washed out lighter wood tones definitely bring the beachy feel indoors.

Wicker

The same washed out look of sun bleached wicker reminds me of the beach. Take a newer wicker piece and give it a light wash of bleach and water then let it sit in the sun.

Almost instantly it ages into the casual coastal style.

Palette of Blues, Crisp White, Greys and Tans

There isn’t a more serene and relaxing palette than pale blues, bright whites and soft tans. If you keep to this palette the coastal vibe will communicate itself loud and clear.

At a new to me thrift store I was thrilled scored this King size grey comforter for just a few dollars.

Paired with the bright white damask quilt I wrapped around a pillow and light blue Euro pillow covers here, together it adds to the beachy color palette I was looking for this Summer.

Stripes

Nautical stripes or pinstripes give a crisp more formal look to a coastal space.

They’ll never go out of style and are always are trend. Stripes are a classic design choice that will forever be the darling of coastal style.

Rope

It was such an easy project, and perfect for coastal home decor.

Tropical Leaves

How can it be a simple tropical stem makes me feel like I’m on vacation?

The whole room suddenly is transported to some sunny, warm tropical location because of the lush green and minimalist shape of the faux foliage.

Beach Art

Thrift carry some of the best art, and I’m always looking for great oil paintings of beach scenes.

Water decor makes me think of vacations which is always good, right?!

I found several beautiful pieces of art on Etsy.

Paddles

We have a little lake in our subdivision that we take a raft out on during the Summer.

This photo shows how our kids leave things hanging around the foyer instead of putting them away.

Thankfully this time it looks good, and oh so coastal.

Wood instead of plastic every time. Can you imagine how bad it would have looked if we had bright yellow plastic raft paddles instead of this wood one?

No idea were the other paddle is though. Probably floating around in the garage somewhere.

No worries, I love Summer!
