My quick and easy homemade vanilla cream cheese frosting is sort of a big deal around our house.
I think I’m actually proud of it because when the kid’s ask me to make it, my heart swells a little.
We celebrated our oldest son Duncan’s twenty-first birthday last week and we made him a delicious red velvet boxed cake. Boxed cake is the best!
What made the cake special was my cream cheese frosting with crushed vanilla Oreos on top.
This was my son Isaac’s delicious idea. He went big for his bro!
The cake was gooood!

Tips to Frosting a Cake
The birthday boy’s little brother Isaac frosted the cake and did a great job.
Duncan wanted to be surprised so Isaac and Elsa chose the dessert and they chose well.
Tips on frosting a cake to make it a fun and easy job.
Icing spatulas, straight and offset
The right tools always make any job easier. You can find inexpensive icing sets that will help you decorate your cake and spread the frosting exactly where you want it to go.
Whether you use a straight icing spatula or offset icing spatula make sure to take your time, and figure out which style works best for you.
Cake turn table and cake board
A cake turn table just makes good sense. This here is the best deal I could find online. You can also splurge on a cake turner like this one here if you plan on using it regularly. Why wrench your neck trying to get to every angle of the cake when you can spin it with ease.
A cake board also allows you to move your cake with ease during the frosting process.
This one here is cute, inexpensive and dishwasher safe.
Waxed paper
This trick has made a huge difference for me when icing a cake. Place strips of waxed paper under your cake before frosting.
When you are finished you can simply pull out the strips and you have a clean edge.
Get your hands sticky
Don’t worry about keeping your hands clean during this whole process.
You’re an artist, get in there and work that cake and frosting if need be!
Never lift your spatula
The name of the game is smooth when it comes to icing a cake. Never lift your spatula straight up off of your cake.
Smooth it on and smooth it off. Gently angel the spatula to the side before sliding it off of the cake.
If you want sweet and creamy with your next cake along with a little bit of savory, give my vanilla cream cheese frosting a try, and let me know what you think!
