When I found these chairs I immediately loved them, but transforming my barrel chairs with slipcovers made me love them even more.
If you follow design trends then you know that the barrel chair is having a moment.
Go to any furniture brand from Target to CB2 and you’ll see an assortment of these types of chairs. I don’t think they’ve actually ever been out of style.
I stumbled on these chairs at one of my thrift shop stops. They were marked at $8 a piece.
That’s a good price, but chairs were 50% off the day I found them. Buying all four only came to $16!
Due to their faded evergreen emerald color and high gloss cherrywood detailing, I’m assuming they’re from the 80’s, but they could also have been born in the early 90’s as well. Whatever their story I fell for them and their incredibly low price so home they came.
Now they weren’t perfect, the upholstery was quite faded, but their structure great, they were in good shape and the quality was obvious.
I considered having them reupholstered, but the labor too high and that didn’t even include fabric. For a hot minute I thought of reupholstering them myself, but then I realized my sanity and peace of mind were too important.
There were some in my family and friends circle who voted to leave them as is because they liked the green, and so we did for a time.
At Christmas they were perfect, and through the Winter they gave a good amount of green to our home which was terribly missing outdoors, but the dog hair situation was a problem. The endless hair showed up way too much for me and embeded itself in the fabric. Ugh.
Then a couple weeks ago I decided I needed to lighten things up. It’s almost Spring and I needed a change.
After some research on the many slipcover options out there, I took a chance and ordered slipcovers.
I’m so glad I did!
These slipcovers (which you can find in my Amazon store here) are specifically for the barrel or club chair shapes. I ordered the ivory and was a little worried the green would show through, but they cover up the original color of the chairs very well. The slipcovers are super soft and thick, and I love the quilted texture.
New fabric is filled with chemicals so just like your clothing always wash your slipcovers before using them. I popped these chair slipcover right in the dryer and although they sat crumpled up for awhile (laundry takes lots of time around here) they weren’t wrinkled at all.
This laid back slipcover look, and especially the neutral color palette is much more my vibe. I couldn’t be happier with it. The price can’t be beat for the quality and look they bring.

Have a wonderful week friends!
