Christmas Crockpot Potpourri
Creating a Christmas Scent Simmer Pot with a Crockpot
As the festive season approaches, there’s nothing quite like the aroma of Christmas to fill your home with warmth and cheer. In this blog post, I’ll guide you through an easy and natural way to create a delightful Christmas scent using a simmer pot in a crockpot. This method is not only safe and toxin-free but also adds a cozy touch to your holiday decor.
I bought two of these little crockpots HERE. One in white and one in stainless steel. they’re both so affordable.
Why Choose a Crockpot for Your Simmer Pot?
Traditional simmer pots are typically used on a stovetop in an open pot, which requires constant attention to prevent boiling over or drying out.
Moreover, an open flame can be a hazard, especially with children around or if left unattended. I worry about these things with our kids. A crockpot, offers a safer and more convenient alternative. You can set it and forget it, without worrying about safety hazards.
Plus, using a mini crockpot allows you to create multiple simmer pots in different areas of your home, each with unique scents.
Recipe Ingredients for a Christmas Scent
For this specific Christmas simmer pot, we’ll be using:
- Apples
- • Oranges
- • Cinnamon sticks
- • Cranberries
- • Rosemary
- • Thyme
These ingredients offer a classic Christmas aroma combining citrusy notes with the warmth of cinnamon and a hint of herbal freshness from rosemary and thyme. Rosemary especially triggers feel good feeling for me. Does it for you? It just one of my favorite herbs.
How to Create Your Christmas Simmer Pot
1. Prepare the Ingredients: Thinly slice the apples and oranges.
2. Layer the Ingredients: In your mini crockpot, layer the sliced apples and oranges, add a handful of cranberries, a couple of cinnamon sticks, and a few sprigs of thyme and rosemary.
3. Add Water: Fill the crockpot two thirds with water.
4. Set the Crockpot: Leave the top off and set the crockpot on medium heat.
5. Disguise the Crockpot (Optional): If you wish to hide the crockpot, use a basket with a slit for the cord.
Aesthetically Pleasing Setup
Crockpots can be discreetly hidden in baskets for a more aesthetic look. To do this, I simply cut a slit in the side of the basket for the plug and cord, allowing it to be easily connected to a power source.
I had my kids try and find the crockpot and they had to really look for it even though it was in plain sight.
