Have you started thinking about your Fall front porch decorations? Yes, it’s still Summer, but it’s not too early to start planning for Fall.
How do you get your inspiration for a project?
It can come from so many different places, but when you do get your inspiration…
Stick with the Plan!
Last year I was looking through a Pottery Barn catalogue and loving the color combinations I was seeing along with their wood furniture. I realized I could use this has my guide when decorating our Fall front porch.
No I didn’t own anything from Pottery Barn, but I could look for things around the house and of course at more affordable stores, to get the look I was after.
Here’s the Before & After
Here’s how I got the big statement I wanted without the big cost.
Pottery Barn Inspired Fall Front Porch
Last year having in mind that Pottery Barn catalogue really helped me to narrow down just what I was looking for when designing of Fall front porch. When you have parameters to stay within you have fewer choices, and this can actually be a good thing. Less decisions need to be made and your design road map leads you to your destination faster.
Decide on your Main Component
Last year it was all about pumpkins. Let’s be honest it doesn’t even really feel like Fall decor without them! I bought mine from a local farmer and gathered several of the muted, neutral tones I love so much.
I brought out several items I thought might work in this space. You can always edit things out as you begin to get a better picture as to what works and what does not. It’s a game of trial and error. You don’t know unless you give it a try.
Paint Pumpkins to Your Color Palette
The muted tones of creams and light greys are hard to find in pumpkins at price I want to pay. So instead of spending a fortune on these specialty pumpkins I got the help of my sweet middle two.
I had them us some left over paint to give these pumpkins a makeover. It didn’t take long and we had some fun doing it. They thought it was crazy, but obviously they aren’t on social media so they haven’t seen how this has been happening for awhile now.
Use What You Have
- Outdoor rug (thrifted)
- Vintage Urn (gift)
- Pillow Covers (Target) these here are also a staple of mine
- Fall leaf wreath (Thrifted)
Find One Big Statement Piece
A big eye catching item doesn’t have to be expensive, but in this case we did put more than half of our budget into a wooden bench. No regrets because I love sitting out here.
I had wanted an outdoor bench for a couple of yeas and decided this was the time to finally find one. This one we discovered online. You can see several like it here and here. It’s wonderful and we usually keep it on the back deck, but in keeping with the Pottery Barn theme I had going on it was perfect to place it on the front porch.
Choose a Splurge Item
My splurge Item/items were the mini white chrysanthemums. So cute!
They weren’t expensive, but they also weren’t needed. They are however, an added little detail that makes this front porch so good.
These cream mini faux mums would work perfect for a project like this. Mine were fresh and their little pots kept drying out on me. With these there would be no watering necessary!
Keep
Whether during the day or at night this was such a happy front porch to come home to. I hope I can get inspired again this year. Still waiting to be hit with an idea.
