We’ve all been there. Life gets busy and our spaces get a mess, but I have a strategy to share.
Here are 5 steps to quickly tidy any room.
And they’re quick, oh so quick!
I use them to keep our home from getting too out of control. It’s my go to way of getting things together fast so we can get on with enjoying life.
5 Steps to Quickly Tidy Any Room
It’s the clutter in your home that is preventing you from reaching your true potential. Here are four steps to quickly tidy any room. Decluttering your home, so that you can think more clearly, feel more peace, and be the best version of yourself, is essential. These are my most basic tips, broken into small, actionable steps to help you have the home you’ve always wanted.
A happy home is not a cluttered home. Stuff lying everywhere clogs up your creative spirit. A happy home serves you, and the things in it should serve you as well. These tips will also help you shift your mindset and become aware of what causes the clutter, so you can prevent clutter from ever happening again. Your environment reflects your inner state of being. Let that sink in, because that’s a lot right there. I believe this to be true, 100%.
When my home starts to become cluttered, I am now able to take a step back and realize the inner turmoil that is being reflected in my home. After this mindful moment, I am then motivated to take care of the external clutter as my first step to addressing the internal turmoil within me. It works every time.
When I clean up my home and declutter that which is not needed, things within me become clearer, and I’m able to take steps to help increase my peace, as well as my family’s peace.
1. Put On Some Upbeat Music
Believe it or not this might be the most important step of the five steps. Listening to upbeat music you like makes the whole process of tidying up a room so much easier and enjoyable.
Music also brings energy to the job at hand and that ensures you stick with the job finish your project.
2. Gather Four Containers
When cleaning a room filled with stuff the last thing you want to be doing is picking up individual pieces and then taking the time and energy to bring them to their home which is probably spread out throughout your house. Instead gather four containers.
One container for garbage, one for recycling, one for all the things that need to be put away, and lastly one for all the things that you’re giving away. Don’t skip any of these containers because they all have their purpose. You can use paper bags, baskets or boxes to keep organized.
3. Pick Up and Sort
Now it’s time to begin getting rid of all the clutter in your space by picking it up from where it shouldn’t be. As you pick up items make sure that the opening of the containers stays open on it’s own. Don’t use a plastic bag with no form. You don’t want to waste time picking up a bag, opening it up and putting something in. You want to toss the items in as fast and easily as possible.
Remember the music will be playing and you’ll be having a great time dancing as you go.
4. Put Away
After everything is sorted take care of the easy bags first. For me that’s garbage going into the garbage and recycling going to the recycling.
Next I have the kids go through the put away basket and take care of their things. Whatever items are left I find a home for or add it to the give away bag.
Lastly, I put the give away bag directly into the back of my van so the next time I’m out I swing by the thrift store for a drop off.
5. Sweep Up
This last step is my favorite. I actually really like sweeping and I like vacuuming even better. Knowing this is the last step of the whole process is a great feeling. The anticipation of almost being done and seeing all you’ve accomplished makes this last step a snap.
Put away your broom or vacuum and take a good look at your tidy space.
These 5 steps to quickly tidy any room work for me every time.
I hope you’ll give my simple cleaning strategy a try. You’d be amazed by how quickly and easily you can pull a room together.
