How To Build a Built In Command Center – Part 2

by

After months of working on this project we are finally finished. Feels so good to see the completed result. I shared that we were in the process of building a built in command center in this blog post here.

The command center is just off our kitchen and is the perfect spot for the whole family to get organized. It’s also a good spot for the many things we need on a daily basis as a homeschooling crew. The kids study and learn throughout the whole house not just our homeschool room Because it’s also near the dining area a few areas of the command center also hold clothe napkins, candles, aprons and the like. Located between the kitchen and dining area while just off of the hallway leading to our foyer, it’s on prime real estate. It’s really convenient having it here.

This is where we started.

Here’s a photo journey of the second half of this project. Thankfully the command center looks like it was always meant for this space. Love it when a plan comes together.

The last part of the project seemed to to take the most time. In actuality it wasn’t the most time consuming. We did however run into problems with how to make the cabinets seamlessly attach to the wall. Adding molding, filling in nail holes, and attaching cabinet hardware took much more time than I would have imagined. All that is done now however, and we’re really happy with the result. The added storage is a huge help. We keep our calendars and schedules inside on the doors for easy access.

Anytime we work on a project we try to get the kids involved. Everyone had a hand in this command center. Whether it’s painting, drilling holes or organizing the contents, they each can learn something and help in improving our home.

Whenever you do a DIY project it’s important to remember what it took to get to the finish line. I imagined an area of our home that would help us set priorities and accomplish goals. Building a command center helped us do both.
