DIY Basket Christmas Tree Collar

by

Happy Monday!

Whew! We got both our Christmas trees up and are all feeling the Christmas spirit! I showed you the orange ornaments I made for our faux tree here, and now I have an easy DIY Christmas tree collar for you.

After I decorated the tree in our family room I almost ordered this tree collar here.

Then I got to thinking about an old basket in our garage that had seen better days. I love the shape of this basket and just wasn’t ready to compost it, so it sat unused for a few months.

Thankfully I figured out a way to put it to good use!

I used a metal cutter like this one HERE to snip through the basket at a height for the tree collar.

Once it was cut to size I needed to open it up to get around the base of the Christmas tree.

A saw like this one HERE was needed to get through the thick branch that formed the top of the basket. This part of the basket is why I like it so much, but it took some elbow grease to saw through it.

Once I got through that, I pulled out the metal snipper again, and finished it off.

In order to stop the woven branches from falling apart I dabbed the end

This is the perfect project because you save a good amount of money and can finish it in under an hour.

Reusing and repurposing really makes me happy. I hope this inspires you to try and reuse an old basket by turning it into a woven Christmas tree collar.

You read my mind. I accidentally bought the wrong size tree skirt last year and was debating cutting it to fit. Now I know that I can. Thanks.

I’d go for it Rachel, a little resizing should do the trick.
